Arealeditering is a web-based tool developed by Danmarks Miljøportal, which allows authorities and organisations to edit and update geographical data and associated information. The system is mainly used by municipalities and environmental authorities to adapt and maintain map layers that can be used in environmental management. Users can edit different types of geographic layers, such as protected natural areas, streams, and other environmental data.

What is Area Editing?

Users can edit datasets and geometries for specific environment themes. This system makes it possible to update layers such as §3 areas (protected habitat types), buffer-free watercourses, as well as other administrative and environmental data. It also provides the ability to add, modify, and delete geographic objects, making it a central tool for municipalities managing local environmental data.

Users gain access to the system via Danmarks Miljøportal's user administration, where they are assigned relevant roles and rights to edit data. The system also supports features such as historical data and the ability to import and edit geometries from other sources.

How can Arealeditering help you?

For municipalities and environmental authorities
Municipalities can use Arealeditering to maintain data on protected areas and ensure that map layers and registrations are up to date. It is particularly useful for following up on environmental inspections, nature protection and maintaining local environmental data.

For example, a municipality can edit the geometry of section 3 protected areas if there is a need to adapt the boundaries based on new nature inspections.

For consultants and GIS specialists
GIS specialists who work with environmental data can use Arealeditering to correct errors in geographical layers or to update areas with new data, e.g. in the event of changes in protected habitat types or infrastructure projects.
